Fashion trends for men tend to differ greatly in comparison to fashion trends for women. The cycle for fashion trends when you are a man moves much more slowly, and this is especially true when it comes to suits for men. There are distinct suit styles that are becoming prevalent in 2010 and 2011, but not much actually changes from year to year in the realm of suit styles.

* Sack Suit Style: The sack suit style comes from the house of Ralph Lauren and features a two-buttoned tweed look coupled with a shape that is not natural to the modern silhouette for a male. Imagine the suits that are worn in Mad Men and similar period pieces and you will have a better idea of what Ralph Lauren is trying to achieve here.

The sack suit is largely unshaped with natural shoulders, darting in the front and a unique style to other types of suits. If you want something unique, it might be worth considering, but if you are looking for a perfectly tailored suit that fits you perfectly with ideal drape, then this is not the suit style for you.

* Velvet Suit Style: The velvet suit is absolutely essential in 2010 and 2011. When you do it right, it adds sex appeal and visual appeal that your wardrobe needs, end of story. If a full velvet blazer or suit is not your style, you could always choose a subtle interpretation of the velvet suit, such as velvet lapels for example. The quality and the cut of the velvet are absolutely key when it comes to maximizing the benefits of a velvet suit for men. Make sure that the fit is perfect when you are buying a velvet suit, because a poorly fitting suit is not going to have the same sex appeal as one that is custom tailored to your silhouette.
